Previously, I blogged on Creativity and Humour, pointing out a parallel where both humour and creativity often involve an interesting and novel juxtaposition of different frames of reference.
It is worth drawing attention to another parallel: both creativity and humour involve a capability of developing a very accurate and to a certain extent novel observation of ‘how the world is.’
In humour this vision of the world might show up in a witty caricature of the world that people laugh at because they recognise the characterisation as ‘just so.’
In creativity, this accurate observation of reality in its many facets leads to reframing how the world is viewed – motivating creative exploration of new directions and combinations, and facilitating gauging creative progress by assessing the discrepancy between present reality and the creative vision.
